Known for its boutique feel, Corey Uniform has been serving the tri-state area since the early '70s, so you know this place means business. Think of how many students its had to accommodate! All of your school's attire is available here, plus the store offers custom fittings if needed. Staten Island.

From solids and plaids to Oxford shirts and warm sweaters, Englic Uniforms keeps NYC well dressed while they're cracking down during study hall. The Brooklyn storefront offers various styles that coincide with all NYC schools' requests. Borough Park.

These tips may seem common sense to some but maybe there is a new idea or two for how you can save money on uniforms. If you are new to the uniform shopping scene, I hope this list helps you save money on uniforms from the beginning. This is how I save money on our school uniforms.

For our school, students can wear any brand of polos (no embellishments) in navy, yellow, white, grey or maroon. Pants have to be navy, black or khaki and have the straight uniform pocket style in the back of pants or shorts. Skirts and rompers are allowed for girls. Each student has to have one embroidered school logo polo from Lands End but the rest of our uniforms can be bought elsewhere.

This is probably the easiest and most important way to save money. We know that every August, our kids will need new uniforms so plan ahead by shopping early! In fact, the best way to save money is to shop year round for uniforms. Keep an eye open for sales on uniforms throughout the year and you will be surprised what you find.

I have bought many polos on markdown in September as the stores phased out their uniform displays. If I find polos for $3 or less (my best price point), I snatch them up! Every time I was at the store, I wandered by the kids area and was surprised to find uniforms 3 or 4 months throughout the year, marked down substantially on close out. Clearance markdowns are a great way to save on uniforms!

Another trick is to shop consignment stores early in the season. When August arrives, all the uniforms will be picked over. In February? You will have a much better chance of finding uniforms. Our local consignment store sorts clothes by colors and size so I quickly browse the appropriate colors every time I am in the store to see what I find. Sometimes, we use it right away and other times I put it away for later.

Watch the sales and determine your best price point for uniforms. For example, I know Old Navy will put their polos on sale for $3 at least once a summer, so I watch for that sale. $3 is my price point for polos. $3 is definitely buying uniforms for cheap! Knowing that helps me sort through the sales to find the absolute best deals.

If your child's school has a uniform or dress code, you may be wondering where is the best place to buy this. Here I'm going to list several stores which I've had experience buying uniform or dress code wear. Some of these stores are better for certain items than others; I've indicated where that is the case.

I've put French Toast first for a reason: it's hands down the number one place I like for uniform wear because of the high quality. The pricing is just as affordable as anywhere else, so you can't go wrong shopping there. In particular, you'll save time on busy school day mornings not having to deal with wrinkles in clothing. Their clothes come out of the dryer ready to go, no ironing needed, and best of all, their polo collars lie flat and behave properly. If you have never bought school uniform wear before, let me tell you that the polo collars are a bigger deal than they first seem. We've bought other brands of polo shirts and the collars need constant straightening and never really lie flat properly. So if a polo shirt is part of your child's uniform or dress code, I recommend French Toast.

French Toast, since it specializes in school uniforms, also offers hard-to-find colors of items such as polo shirt and plaid skirts and dresses. You'll also find many more options of pant styles than you would at other places. In particular I love their pull-on khaki style pants (boy styles here; girls styles here). They look exactly like the real thing but have a fake button and fly, ideal for kids that struggle a little with buttons and zippers, or just to make your child's life easier.

The Children's Place sells a much more limited range of colors and styles of school uniform than French Toast. Their strength is that The Children's Place has khaki-style pants available in extended sizing. If you have a tall slender child for example, then this is the best place for the uniform khaki-style pants.

Although school uniforms make it easy in the mornings for your kids to pick out what to wear to school each day, they sometimes are a pain to get the exact ones that your school requires. Luckily many stores are now carrying a wider range of the most popular school uniform styles whether it be for girls or boys, teens or tweens and for various body types. Also check out our list of Tax Free Holidays to see if your state has one. These are the best days to stock up on school shopping.

The appearance of a uniform at most schools was slow to develop, and was rare before the beginning of the 19th century. It was influenced by the appearance of uniforms in civilian professions and trades, the growing sobriety of men's fashions, and the emergence of sportswear.[6]

The gymslip was originally worn for gymnastics and sports. It developed into a major element of female school uniform by the 1920s, worn with a blouse and tie: in some schools this arrangement continued into the 1960s. Also identifying knitted cardigans or sweaters, blazers with felt hats or straw boaters trimmed with bands in the school colours were also worn, both public schools and local grammar schools insisting on formal uniforms that conformed to precise specifications. At Kidbrooke School, the first LLC comprehensive school that opened in 1954, started out with a uniform of air force blue with coloured berets that identified the girls house.[6]

Schools issued parents and potential parents with an equipment list, including many school specific designs. They specified which department stores had agreed to be stockists. In the 1920-1950, families would travel across the country, to London or Manchester on a specific shopping trip. This was a lucrative business for the stores; whole floors were set aside for boys' school uniform and separately for girls' school uniform, they hoped that families would then visit other floors and do a major shop in other departments.

Parents say that wearing a uniform helps all children to fit into a school. The school uniform manufacturer, Trutex commissioned research in 2017 that showed school uniforms stopped bullying.[11]However, there is no reliable research showing that uniform improves the academic results of a school. School uniforms act as a form of social control.[12]

Consistent success depends greatly on consistent image. Landscapers, bank employees, small business employees and store employees who wear uniforms generally get a higher dollar per hour labor rate from their customers than those who don't wear uniforms.
